Web Design & Development in Lagos
Fast, mobile-first websites for Nigerian businesses — custom designed, built on a CMS you can update yourself, and set up to be found on Google. Designed and developed by theHoracle Studio.
Websites built to win customers, not just to exist
Most small-business websites in Nigeria were built to tick a box. They load slowly on mobile data, they don't say clearly what the business does, and the contact form quietly fails. People visit, get confused and leave for a competitor's Instagram page.
theHoracle Studio builds the opposite: fast, mobile-first websites with a clear message, a clear next step, and a content system you can update yourself. The studio is run by James Morgan — known online as theHoracle — a software engineer and designer in Lagos. That means the person planning your site understands design, copy, code, hosting and search, and makes them work together.
Who this service is for
- Service businesses — consultants, clinics, law firms, cleaning companies, event planners — who need a site that turns searches into calls, WhatsApp chats and booked appointments.
- Creatives and personal brands — DJs, photographers, speakers and coaches — who need a portfolio that books gigs. Our DJ booking website case study shows how that works.
- Real estate, hospitality and retail brands that need listings, menus, galleries or catalogues people can actually browse on a phone.
- Startups and product teams that need a marketing site or a web app built on a modern stack, not a page builder they'll outgrow in six months.
If you sell products online, see our dedicated e-commerce and WhatsApp store setup service instead.
What you get
Every website project includes the essentials that decide whether a site performs:
- Strategy and structure. We agree who the site is for, what visitors should do, and which pages are needed before anything is designed.
- Custom design. No recycled templates. Layouts are designed around your brand, your content and your customers' questions — and checked on small Android screens, not just a laptop.
- Mobile-first, fast development. Pages are built to load quickly on Nigerian mobile networks: optimised images, minimal JavaScript, modern hosting and caching.
- A CMS you control. Update text, images, projects and blog posts from a simple admin panel. We usually build with Payload CMS, the same system that runs this website.
- On-page SEO foundations. Clean URLs, page titles and descriptions, structured data, a sitemap and Search Console setup, so Google can understand and rank your pages.
- Conversion essentials. Click-to-call and WhatsApp buttons, contact and enquiry forms that actually deliver, booking embeds, and clear calls to action on every page.
- Launch and handover. Domain connection, SSL, analytics, a walkthrough of the admin panel, and support after launch.
How we work
1. Discovery
A free call to understand the business, the audience and what success looks like. We look at your current site (if you have one), your competitors and how customers find you today. You get a written scope and a quote.
2. Structure and content
We map the pages and the journey through them, and agree who writes what. If you need help with copy, we write it with you — the words on a page matter as much as the design.
3. Design
You see the key pages designed for mobile and desktop before development starts, and we refine them with your feedback.
4. Development
The site is built with production-grade tools — typically Next.js, React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS on the front end, with Payload CMS for content — and tested on real devices and slow connections.
5. Launch and growth
We connect your domain, submit the sitemap to Google, set up analytics, and train you on the CMS. After launch we can keep improving the site, adding content and fixing anything that comes up.
Technology we use (and why it matters to you)
You don't need to care about frameworks — but you should care about what they do for your business.
- Next.js and React produce pages that load fast and are easy for search engines to read.
- Payload CMS gives you a clean admin panel with no plugin sprawl, and your content lives in a database you own.
- TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Node.js and Go are what we reach for when a project needs logins, dashboards, payments or integrations — the same stack James used to build products like Whatstore.
- Modern hosting with a global CDN keeps pages quick for visitors in Lagos, Abuja, London or anywhere else.
We also build web applications and MVPs — dashboards, portals, booking systems and SaaS products — when a brochure site isn't enough.
What affects the cost of a website
Every quote is based on scope, but these are the factors that move the price most:
- Number and type of pages. A single landing page costs far less than a twenty-page company site with service, location and team pages.
- Content. Whether you supply final text and photos, or need copywriting, photography direction or product data entry.
- Functionality. Booking, payments, member logins, multiple languages, custom calculators or integrations with WhatsApp, CRMs or inventory systems all add development time.
- Design depth. Adapting an existing brand is quicker than creating a visual identity from scratch.
- Ongoing needs. Hosting, maintenance, security updates and SEO work after launch.
As a guide, our public project cost calculator currently starts landing pages from $300, business websites from $500 and e-commerce websites from $1,000, with optional yearly hosting and maintenance from $120 and an SEO foundation setup from $200. The calculator shows prices in naira and other currencies, and you can add pages and extras to see how the total changes. For a full breakdown, read our guide to how much a website costs in Nigeria.

Frequently asked questions
- How long does it take to build a website?
- It depends on scope and on how quickly content and feedback come in. A landing page can be ready in days; a multi-page business website usually takes a few weeks. You get a timeline with your quote, and the biggest cause of delay is usually waiting for content — so we help you plan that early.
- Can I update the website myself?
- Yes. Sites are built on a CMS with an admin panel where you can edit pages, upload images and publish posts without touching code. We walk you through it at handover.
- Do you redesign existing websites?
- Yes. We'll review what you have, keep what works (including any search rankings you've earned), and set up redirects so old links don't break.
- Do you work with businesses outside Lagos?
- Yes. The studio is based in Lagos, but discovery, design reviews and handover all work well over video calls and WhatsApp, so we work with clients across Nigeria and abroad.
- Will my website show up on Google?
- Every site we build includes technical SEO foundations — fast pages, clean structure, titles and descriptions, structured data and a sitemap submitted to Google. Ranking for competitive searches also depends on your content, reviews and reputation over time, and we can help with that after launch. Nobody can honestly guarantee a #1 position.
- What do I need to get started?
- A rough idea of what you want the site to do, your logo (or a plan to create one — see our branding service) and any content you already have. Then book a free call or estimate your cost.
